Fearing and Loving God                                                                                                        page 1

I know this is mostly about fearing God. The reason I did this is that one of the guys in a bible study said, “we no longer need to fear God because of Jesus.”  I told him this was partially true, IF our love was perfect. But it’s not! So, We need a Redeemer and a Saviour! Everyday we grow, everyday we should be repenting for failures. (This is cool… the definition to this word {repent} in the concordance “original Greek” is to “Change your way of thinking”!) I know there is so very much more I could and need to say to be totally clear on this………..! Here are the verses…

Exodus 20:19-20 and said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, lest we die.” 20 Moses said to the people, “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you, that you may not sin.”

Matthew 10:28  And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Mark 4:41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Mark 5:36 But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.”

Luke 1:50 And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.

Luke 1:68 “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people 69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us

in the house of his servant David, 70 as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, 71 that we should be saved from our enemies

and from the hand of all who hate us; 72 to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, 73 the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us 74 that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies,

might serve him without fear, 75 in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

Luke 8:50 But Jesus on hearing this answered him, “Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well.”

Luke 12:5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!

Luke 12:7  Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Luke 12:32  Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Luke 18:2  He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man.

Acts 9:30 …And when the brothers learned this, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus. 31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.

Acts  10:34 So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36 As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),

Romans 11:17-21 17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.

2 Timothy 1:7 6 …For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

2 Corinthians 7:1 Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

1 Peter 2:17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

* 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

Revelation 14:7 And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Revelation  19:4-5And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” And from the throne came a voice saying,

“Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.”

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 15:33  The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom,
and humility comes before honor.

(Here we see humility is key to understanding.)

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever!

Matt 22: 37-40 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

So, here we have a promise. If we just do it, we will be given an understanding of love. We may not get the result that is understood by or pleasing to the flesh. Jesus and many others suffered for it. Just do it! Your flesh will be dismayed and God will bless you for it!

Understanding God the Father, Jesus and perfect love.

If you know Christ, you know God.

If you know God, you know love.

If you know love you see the love in the law.

If you know Christ you know Christ is God's love made flesh.

If you love Christ, you love the law; which is love!

Then you know that Love is greater than the law.

Then you know Christ overrides the law.

As we currently exist in the flesh, we must battle. It is a war of God’s love in us vs. satan’s hate. How can we win without His help? Are we alone stronger than satan?

If you do not know perfect love, you know fear all too well.

If you know God, you know love, then fear has lost its power over us, lost to the love in Christ Jesus, in us.

Jesus was God’s perfect love in the flesh. Know Jesus, Know God the Father.

For Jesus had given himself for us.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

It’s so awesome to see how God’s plan and His Word to us is so linked and knitted together! Jesus is victorious over death that we may live in God’s love through Him!

 God bless!
